About UsPOSTO BELLO in Italian means “beautiful place”, we produce a sustainable and beautiful honey product. We keep bees in various settings on the coast of Maine, organic agricultural settings, backyard garden settings etc. Our bees forage on a mix of wildflower and fruit trees that reside in areas where our bees are positioned. Great effort is taken and various mapping technologies are used to position our hives in areas that have high honey potential and are healthy for our bees. We are committed to excellence in all of our apiculture practices, we lightly strain our honey so that pollen granules stay intact. Although we extract and sell honey the bees always come first. As healthy as honey is for people our bees need honey to survive our long winters. So we share...
We provide the highest standard of organic bee management to produce a honey unrivaled in flavor and quality. Treating bees ethically by placing them in landscapes that sustain this vital and threatened animal is important to us. Our goal is to integrate bees into the landscape, to engage and educate the public in bee conservation and beekeeping. Our honey is unpasteurized and pure, direct from the bees to you. We only harvest the surplus leaving the bees what they need to flourish. We over winter all our colonies in Maine and breed from our strong winter proved colonies to produce a hardy honeybee well adapted to our climate. By operating this way, we honor the bees’ natural instincts and protect their genetic diversity. Consequently, the environment is supported and high quality, healthy honey makes it to your table. Enjoy! |
Who We Are |
Hello, my name is Carmine "Joe" DeStefano, I started POSTO BELLO APIARIES in 2008. It started as a curious hobby with a starter hive that was given as a gift from my wife. It sparked a passion that has grown into master beekeeper certificates, graduate degree and divine passion for honeybees. I now run the apiary with about 10 hives in select coastal Maine areas. Hives are mostly placed in certified organic settings and plans have been developed to grow and diversify the business. I hold a Certified Beekeeper certificate from the University of Georgia's Young Harris Bee Institute, one of three steps toward the Master Beekeeper certification and a graduate degree from Harvard University, where I was honored for my work with honeybees and awarded the Dean Prize for academic excellence. The Deans Prize is the highest academic honor given for Capstone projects by Harvard University . Actually, the idea of using mapping technologies for ecosystem floral assessments and monitoring was the result of my graduate work. Integrating knowledge with the "art of beekeeping" is the nexus of great honey, happy bees and a lovely life.
